Policy statement
Ombudsman SA (OSA) uses social media, namely LinkedIn, to communicate with the public by publishing, sharing and distributing information.
Information posted on our channels is not intended to be legal advice and should not be used as such.
How we manage our channels
Ombudsman SA’s social media accounts are managed and operated by the Corporate and Engagement division.

Hours of use
OSA’s social media accounts are monitored between business hours, 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
Accounts may also be intermittently monitored outside of business hours subject to staff availability and business needs (i.e. emergency management).
Responding to enquiries and moderation
OSA does not respond to comments posted on OSA’s social media accounts or others.
OSA’s social media accounts are not intended for enquiries or complaints. These can be made by other methods as outlined on our website: www.ombudsman.sa.gov.au.
OSA reserves the sole right to review, edit, hide or delete any comments it deems discriminatory, abusive, vexatious or threatening and actions which may offend, mislead, insult, humiliate or intimidate.
Similarly, OSA reserves the right to disable comments and messages on OSA’s social media accounts.
No endorsement of any kind is given or implied by OSA for any account we follow or for any republishing or re-sharing.
Privacy and public records
You must not disclose any confidential information, including any information in connection with a complaint or report, except where disclosure is authorised in accordance with the Ombudsman Act 1972.
We ask that you protect your own personal privacy and that of others by not posting personal information about yourself or others to OSA’s social media accounts.
By submitting content to OSA’s social media accounts, you understand and acknowledge that this information is available to the public, and as such, is considered a public record in accordance with the State Records Act 1997.
Private messages sent to our social media accounts will be treated as correspondence and will be recorded and archived, as part of legislative requirements for Government record keeping.
In certain circumstances, we may collect your personal information when you engage with OSA’s social networking channels. If there is personal information in your comment or post, such as information from a complaint, it will be managed in accordance with this policy.
Where permitted by law, personal information that is collected about you from your use of OSA’s social networking sites may be used for:
- promoting and making public statements about publications
- seeking and receiving feedback or submissions from members of the public on
- matters affecting OSA’s functions
- gathering information that will assist OSA to fulfil its functions and obligations.
Enquiries about privacy and changes to this policy
