The Ombudsman and Deputy Ombudsman are supported by the following teams:

The intake and assessment team receives and assesses complaint to determine what action, if any, should be taken.

The team may informally resolve complaints where appropriate.

The investigations team assesses more complex complaints to the Office, and, in certain cases, conducts investigations.

In conducting an investigation, the Ombudsman forms a view as to whether the agency has made an error.

The Ombudsman may also recommend that an agency to take action to address errors.

The information and audit team conducts external reviews under the Freedom of Information Act, including determinations concerning access to documents, amendment of records and other FOI related issues.

The team also deals with complaints about agencies’ handling of FOI applications.

The team is also responsible for undertaking audits pursuant to the Ombudsman Act and the Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Act.

The administration team provides business services, human resources, finance and information technology support to the office, and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the office.
