As described in South Australia’s Freedom of Information Act 1991, access to government information builds transparency, accountability, and participation.
On 28 September, we’ll join with other Ombudsmen and Information Commissioners across the country, in marking the 10th anniversary of International Access to Information Day (also known as, International Day of Universal Access to Information).
This year’s International Access to Information Day theme is: ‘Ensuring Access to Environmental Information in the Digital Age’.
The theme highlights how digital technologies and open data platforms can:
- enhance public access
- foster transparency
- empower citizens and stakeholders to participate meaningfully
- help to hold governments to accountable to the commitments they have made.
With a special focus on environmental governance and sustainable development.
